One Kenya Alliance (OKA) is a new alliance bringing together Musalia Mudavadi (ANC), Kalonzo Musyoka (Wiper), Moses Wetangula (Ford Kenya) and Gideon Moi (KANU). It is an alliance that is ready to tackle the 2022 maze. One of the winning formulae is lining up and by choosing a charismatic flag-bearer.
First, this alliance cannot be assumed by its political rivals because it is said to be enjoying state house support. It has been labelled as a “deep state” project.
Secondly this alliance has reduced Raila to size. The three of the four principals walked out of NASA with a lot of votes. According to the IEBC register Kalonzo have around 1.7 million votes while Mudavadi is having around 2.8 million voters.
However, this alliance might have a problem when it comes to identifying their candidate. All the four have declared that they will run for presidency in 2022.
The presidential candidate will be picked according to what each one can offer. That is number of votes. Going by the past election’s register of voters, ANC leader Musalia Mudavadi is having highest number of votes.
Considering that Luhyas have never voted as a block might be a challenge to Mudavadi.
Musalia Mudavadi has been working hard to appear as the flagbearer by calling for press conference regularly.
Winning by-elections in their background doesn’t mean that OKA is strong to face Ruto and Raila.
Former vice president Kalonzo can also bring more votes to the table. He is having the support of Ukambani region and can also have more votes from the diaspora.
Gideon Moi has no name for himself and is still riding on his father’s legacy. Votes from the Rift Valley where Gideon comes from are locked by William Ruto. As it appears on the Sunday Nation, ”Gideon lacks the charisma of Ruto or the Razzmatazz of Raila…..”
From the current two events that has transpired this year it is becoming clear that Gideon might be Uhuru’s best choice.
First during a State House meeting it was Gideon who addressed the press. President Uhuru and senior politicians like Raila, Kalonzo, Musalia, Ngilu and Wetangula stood behind him.
Secondly, Gideon Moi and Uhuru’s brother Muhoho Kenyatta visited Raila Odinga. The visit is likely to be political visit since it happened when there were rumors about possible coalition between Ruto and Raila.
These two moves are symbolic and shows that Gideon Moi is being made to be a factor. Gideon Moi’s father played a significant role in Uhuru’s presidential bid and the best way of returning favor is by supporting Uhuru’s presidential bid.
