Mt. Kenya is not ready to support ODM leader Raila Odinga for presidency, if comments by Murang’a Senator Irungu Kang’ata are anything to go by.
On Wednesday while appearing on JKL show with Jeff Koinange, the senator showed his dislike with how Jubilee government is handling Raila after years of fighting him.
In a strongly worded statement, Kang’ata told Koinange that he was not ready to throw his weight behind Raila’s quest for presidency.
“I cannot support Raila Odinga, I do not support his politics and therefore I’m a little bit unhappy when I see Jubilee Party moving towards Raila’s corner. We have spent so many years fighting against Raila Odinga…” Kang’ata said.
He went ahead to accuse the Jubilee government of secluding those who relentlessly fought against Odinga in the run up to the handshake.
During the Kisumu celebrations, President Uhuru heaped praise on Raila for setting aside his personal interest to agree on the handshake.
Kang’ata’s comments came on the backdrop of Raila Odinga being referred to as ‘President’ by a South African Minister on Madaraka Day celebrations in Kisumu.
“We saw a minister from S. Africa referring to the former PM as ‘president’ surely you get the impression that that lady was there purposely to prop up Raila Odinga” a concerned Kang’ata further quipped.
On the issue of the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI), Kang’ata rubbished claims that it will solve the country’s perennial problems like election violence. Instead, he said it is only meant to benefit a few individuals who are thirsty for power.
“I do not see the correlation between peaceful elections and BBI. In fact, I see the opposite because BBI is about creating positions for politicians, expanding the Executive…the political underpinnings of BBI is to exclude William Ruto from power, of course, it is not spoken but I’m sure every Kenyan understands the politics of BBI…” he retorted.
Kang’ata since breaking ranks with the president has fully joined the Tangatanga brigade’s hustler narrative.
