In a bizarre turn of events, the body of Elijah Obuong’ who was among the four Kitengela was exhumed from his burial site on Wednesday night.
Reports say that a group of about 7 men dug his body which had been buried in Holo Village, Muhoroni Sub-County in Kisumu County.
According to police sources, the body was exhumed early morning, put it in a plastic bag and loaded it onto a waiting hearse.
The empty coffin was then thrown back into the grave and refilled the burial pit with soil before speeding off.
Family sources who spoke to the Standard intimated that Obuong had been buried at a relative’s place instead of his parents’ home.
It is suspected the family member disapproved of Obuong’s burial at his aunt’s place, and wanted the deceased laid to rest at her home.
“His aunt felt she owed Obuong’ a decent send-off because she brought him up from childhood to adulthood,” the source told the publication.
Kisumu County Police Commander Samuel Anampiu said that they are going after a relative who may have been part of the group that exhumed Obuong’s body.
“We are tracking down a close family member, whom we believe organised the illegal exhumation,” Anampiu told the Standard.
Elijah Obuong’ was among four men who went missing in unclear circumstances from an entertainment joint in Kitengela, Kajiado County on April 19.
