Mt. Kenya politicians allied to Deputy President William Ruto are on the latter stages of shopping for a church that will become the coronation grounds where he will be made the kingpin of the region.
The coronation will see him get unveiled as the region’s preferred presidential candidate in a befitting church ceremony.
The latest actions from Ruto allies are meant to counter the controversial coronation of National Assembly speaker Justin Muturi as the region’s spokesperson.
“They have picked their kingpins from the bushes and we will pick ours from the altar of God,” Nakuru Senator Susan Kihika said.
The DP’s Mt Kenya’s allies are going into an overdrive to market the DP as the region’s preferred candidate ahead of the 2022 presidential election.
Ruto’s planned coronation is set to portray him as a God-fearing man unlike others who do ‘bush coronations’ as his allies put it.
Allies are working on a programme that will see the ‘Holy Spirit coronation drive’ held in churches across the Mt Kenya region.
Murang’a Senator Irungu Kang’ata said Ruto’s coronation in church is informed by the fact that the DP is competing against opponents who oppose the church and do not have any known mainstream faith.
“Will have to do things differently and avoid competing on the platform of darkness, dedicating our candidate to God,” Kang’ata told Sunday Nation.
Nyandarua Woman Rep Faith Gitau said after the coronation God would convince voters that Ruto’s candidacy is the best.
“It is true that we are planning to unveil our candidate straight from the wings of the church. We are investing Dr Ruto’s candidacy in the blessings of God. The opponents that we are facing can only be tackled through investing in prayer. Ours will only be to tour the country to ask for votes and God will convince the voters that our bet is the DP.” Faith Gitau said.
