Kisumu County is on a tight spot even as the Ministry of Health warns of spiking cases of covid-19 cases.
And even as the Ministry of Health warns of tough days to come, county boss Anyang’ Nyong’o has downplayed reports that the Madaraka day celebrations is to blame for the rising cases.
During an interview with NTV on Tuesday, Kisumu County Governor Anyang’ Nyong’o said that the Madaraka Day celebrations in Kisumu has nothing to do with the rising number of COVID – 19 cases in that particular county.
“Madaraka day celebration had nothing to do with the rising cases. The figures that we have, show that three weeks before then, the weekly figures were rising and they have continued to rise and if you look at the figures after the Madaraka Day, it has continued with the same strength as it would have even if the Madaraka was not held,” Anyang’ said.
Kisumu Governor warned that the third wave is very serious.
“This third wave is very serious and World Health Organization (WHO) has issued a warning that a 4th wave is coming,” Nyong’o stated.
While talking about the same, he urged that there is need for vaccination.
“We need to prioritize vaccinations, it is our best defense. In the meantime, we must apply the COVID – 19 protocols strictly,” Nyong’o said.
The Kisumu County Boss asserted that to know the rate of positivity in our population, there is need for rapid test kits.
“We need rapid test kits so that we know the rate of positivity in our population and what part of population we should target in terms of prevention because from where I sit, I know that if anybody over 60 years gets COVID, there is very high likelihood that they will pass on and we need to protect them,” Nyong’o said.
While talking about the same the governor stated that the more we test the more we realize the positivity of our population, and the more we need to isolate people.
