Chief Justice Martha Koome has today issued a statement on the arrest of two judges. Justices Said Chitembwe and Aggrey Muchelule were arrested yesterday in their chambers.
Through a statement issued, Chief Justice has pointed the dissatisfication that this incident has caused on judges and judicial officials.This is as a result of her silence on the matter.
Chief Justice has assured judges and judicial officers that the independence of judiciary and their constitutional duties are well protected.
She urged the to continue discharging their duties without fear and in accordance with their oath of the office.
Chief Justice has called for calmness as a full statement will be issued after findings and investigation have been completed.
On the same note, the Kenya Judges and Magistrates Association has move to the court to block prosecution of two judges.
Through lawyer Danstan Omari, KMJA have sought to have police barred from re-arresting the two judges.
KMJA Secretary-General, Senior Principal Magistrate, Derick Kuto said that, judges were ambushed in their chambers yesterday by unknown individuals.
