The Nairobi gubernatorial race has gained traction from bigwig outfits as each aspirant has embarked on vote hunting mission that might hopefully secure the city’s top seat.
However, the unprecedented dilemma in Raila Odinga’s Azimio la Umoja faction about the correct bet for county’s seat has created the political void in ODM and Jubilee following the long awaited amalgamation that is expected to initiate an “earthquake” ahead of August election.
Having been the center player (Azimio ambassador) in marketing and popularizing the Azimio la Umoja forays within the city and drumming support for Raila-Uhuru truce that emanated peace and unity across the country, governor Anne Kananu bags Uhuru and Raila’s trust to head the county on Azimio ticket in the next general election.
Kananu’s relentless efforts in resuscitating the county’s economy through injection of financial boost to micro, small and medium business enterprises, provision of suitable and friendly business environment, provision of safe and clean water to slum areas has placed her on the iconic radar of being the only hope for the local traders and downtrodden residents within the city.
Although the Kenyan politics is assumed to be ridding off the regional supremacy perception among the leaders, but it is quite evident that the aforesaid notion still thrives especially in the presidential election.
Raila’s political page ought to feature Anne Kananu for Nairobi governor going by the fact that Meru region’s grip on Azimio la Umoja Movement has been fundamental in Raila’s presidency.
If Raila won’t pick the Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Peter Munya for running mate, then he will be sandwiched between decision of settling on Anne Kananu (she comes from Meru region) as Azimio candidate for Nairobi gubernatorial seat.
Raila and Uhuru understands vividly that denying Meru people the Nairobi gubernatorial seat might resultantly lead to absurd fallout among the leaders in Azimio la Umoja umbrella and even occasion the mass exodus of heavyweight leaders (especially from Meru) to join the opponents’ camps.
Kananu’s spectrum of humanity has seen her go into public and slum areas to engage with locals and seek solutions to the bottlenecking challenges facing the underprivileged people.
She has been sound-minded, dedicated to public service, knowledgeable of her responsibility, compassionate in her dealings, respectful and principled in her approaches and above all, someone of ironclad integrity. She has handled sector budgets running into billions of money and not a rumour has coiled her name into pinching even a red cent.
